The Program

NAESE is built around four pillars: TOUCH, SHARE, HEAR, and PLAY. These are also the four pillars of the electronic sound community. They harmonize with what we're all here for: the gear, the conversation, the hands-on time, and the performance. NAESE believes direct experiential interaction strengthens our community.

TOUCH · The Expo Floor

//PILLAR_01
Huntington Convention Center hall

The expo floor is where our ecosystem comes alive. Hardware makers, boutique builders, software developers, major manufacturers, supporters and accessories… all under one roof, all of it touchable.

No glass cases, no velvet ropes. Pick it up, plug it in, turn the knob, ask the person who built it why they made that choice. NAESE is built for hands-on discovery. Come with questions. Leave with favorites you didn't know you had.

Categories on the floor

  • Hardware synthesizers — analog, digital, hybrid
  • Eurorack and other modular formats
  • Software instruments, plugins, and creative tools
  • MIDI controllers and performance interfaces
  • Effects pedals and outboard processors
  • DIY and kit companies
  • Sample libraries and sound packs
  • Vintage gear dealers
  • Accessories, cases, and patch infrastructure
  • Audiovisual and visual performance tools
  • Publishers, education, and community organizations

Floor hours are Friday 12:00 - 5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM, and Sunday 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM. Re-entry is permitted with a valid badge.

SHARE · Sessions, Panels, Workshops & Demos

A speaker presenting about Ableton Live

Programmed for depth and insight.

Whether you're just finding your footing or can remember the pre-MIDI days, there's a room designed for you. Practical techniques, design stories, creative process, pedagogy, history, and the kind of honest conversation that doesn't happen in a product demo.

Come curious. Leave inspired.

What we're excited to share

  • Sound design, composition, and performance techniques
  • Hardware and software design stories from the people who shipped them
  • Workflow and creative process — the unglamorous craft
  • Education and pedagogy — the opposite of gatekeeping
  • History and culture of electronic instruments
  • Demonstrations that teach rather than pitch

If people leave smarter, more curious, or more capable than when they arrived, it belongs at NAESE.

HEAR · Performances

Performance shot

Performance at NAESE puts the equipment at the center of the experience. The artists we feature are those who have something to say with their sound and a strong vision for how to say it. The formats we program are designed for genuine listening and connection.

From daytime sets to late-night performances, NAESE features artists who have something to say and formats designed for genuine listening. Intimate sets. Showcases. Full-concert performances. Electronic music treated as the serious, living art form it is.

What performance looks like at NAESE

  • Daytime listening sets — intimate, instrument-forward
  • Hardware live, laptop live, and hybrid setups
  • Audiovisual works with intentional staging
  • Headline evening performances Friday and Saturday nights
  • Saturday late-night programming through approximately 1:00 AM

The emphasis is on intentional sound and strong presentation, not genre purity. Performances are included with all attendee badges. Some evening events may have capacity limits or RSVP requirements depending on venue and format.

Performer applications will be through the perform / speak page.

PLAY · Jam Spaces

//PILLAR_04
Attendees playing in a jam space

The jam spaces are where everything you saw and learned comes together with your own creativity and curiosity. They're for spontaneous collaboration, experimentation, and play. No schedule, just people making music together, coming and going.

Community gear — including things you just saw on the floor — or bring your own. Open pods. No agenda except sound. The jam spaces exist because music doesn't happen in a showroom; it happens when people stop shopping and start playing together.

These are those rooms.

How they work

  • Open during expo hours and select evening windows
  • Coordinated by NAESE staff
  • Headphone-only for performers and listeners to keep things hospitable — no amplification
  • Some pods may be configured with community gear; others are bring-your-own
  • Walk up, plug in, patch with strangers, leave with new friends and possibly a new favorite oscillator

Bringing your instrument is especially encouraged. Hands-on is what NAESE is about, and the jam spaces are where the energy from the floor and the program turns into people making music together.

// Logistics

Jam space etiquette & guidelines

The best jam spaces are self-regulating, but they can get crowded. NAESE staff will be present to help manage the spaces.

Jam spaces are for playing, not performing. If you want to perform, apply through the perform / speak page.

NAESE is not responsible for gear left in jam spaces. If you bring it, take it with you when you're done playing.

Jam spaces are currently in the planning stages. More details on layout, gear, and hours will be published closer to the event.

Finally, interested in helping us staff the jam spaces? We're looking for volunteers to help keep things running smoothly. If that's you, get in touch.
